Back on Earth, the WILDC.A.T.S fight to avenge their fallen comrades and save Earth from Alien infestation.] Old Book of the Week 1/26/05: [Brian Bendis, eat your heart out—Warren Ellis wrote the book on how to disassemble a super-hero team. Violently. Very violently! OK, so Stormwatch didn't have the same nostalgic love that fandom had for the Avengers. But Ellis made up for it with sheer mayhem. It's a miracle that enough of the team survived to become The Authority!]
(becomes The Authority)
Volume 3: Team Achilles
In the aftermath of The Authority vol. 1, a completely revamped Stormwatch was launched as part of Wildstorm's Eye of the Storm imprint. In a way, Stormwatch: Team Achilles is a reaction against the ideas put forth in The Authority, who appear (in a very bad light) in issues 4-6.
Stormwatch: Team Achilles 1 (1-6; w Micah Ian Wright; a Whilce Portacio & Scott Williams). [From DC Comics: The superhumans of the world generally fight their own battles…but when things get out of hand, humanity needs a police force to keep their powers in check. That’s where StormWatch comes in! Written by Micah Ian Wright with art by Whilce Portacio, Scott Williams, and Sal Regla and a cover by Portacio, STORMWATCH: TEAM ACHILLES Volume 1 collects the first six issues of the ongoing series plus the hard-to-find preview originally seen in the pages of Wizard! Led by former Black Razor Ben Santini and featuring an international cast, STORMWATCH: TEAM ACHILLES is hard-edged military fiction for the discriminating reader! Don’t miss this chance to see where the action started!]
Stormwatch: Team Achilles 2 (7-12; w Micah Ian Wright; a Whilce Portacio, C. P. Smith & Bill Sienkiewicz). [From DC Comics: Created and funded by the United Nations, Stormwatch: Team Achilles is a group of highly trained human operatives armed with the latest weaponry and gadgets and given a mission: to police the world's growing superhuman population! Led by former Black Razor Ben Santini and featuring an international cast, Volume 2 contains five gritty tales of hard-edged military fiction with political undertones, each spotlighting a different team member. Don’t miss the introduction of slithery Senator Sonny Terns, the tragic story of Finnish superhuman Holocaust, a guest appearance by THE AUTHORITY’s Midnighter, the return of a classic Stormwatch character, the death of a Team Achilles team member, and much more!]
Coup d'État (4-issue mini with issues for Authority [w Robbie Morrison; a Whilce Portacio], Sleeper [w Ed Brubaker; a Jim Lee], Stormwatch [w Micah Ian Wright; a Carlos d'Anda], and Wildcats [w Joe Casey; a Alé Garza]). [From DC Comics: Tao has tricked the U.S. government into committing an interdimensional atrocity, and only the Authority can save the planet! The crossover event that brought the Eye of the Storm universe to its knees is now available as a trade paperback that collects Coup D’état: The Authority, Coup D’état: Stormwatch, Coup D’état: Wildcats and Coup D’état: Sleeper. As an added bonus, this 112-page volume also includes pinups that appeared in Coup D’état: Afterword. When The Authority decides to take control of the situation — and the world — their actions send out shock waves that shake the foundation of the Eye of the Storm universe. Can Stormwatch: Team Achilles and the Wildcats coexist with the Authority under the new status quo?]
Volume 4: P.H.D.
Team Achilles was cancelled abruptly due to C.V. issues on the part of writer Micah Wright. Stormwatch: P.H.D. was launched in 2006 as part of a line-wide relaunch.
Stormwatch: P.H.D. 1 (1-6; w Christos Gage; a Doug Mahnke, Matthew Smith). [From DC Comics: Former Weatherman Jackson King has a near impossible mission: develop new methods of superpowered-being apprehension and containment…on a shoestring budget. With a dingy office staffed with second-rate heroes and former villains, does this Post-Human Division stand a chance?]
Stormwatch: P.H.D. 2 (7-12; w Christos Gage; a Andy Smith, Matthew Smith). [From DC Comics: In this volume, Jackson King takes his motley PHD team to pay StormWatch Prime a visit to see what they can learn from their super-powered, superstar brethren. But when a key cast member is left for dead, the PHD team must discover who is responsible. Will the investigation tear StormWatch apart from within?] 3/26/08
