But their stories also interweave with the other Soldiers' tales, forming a grander story of a devastating global threat to mankind ‹ with the ties between them becoming more evident in each new volume. Together these reluctant champions must arise and somehow work together to save the world...without ever meeting one another.] Book of the Week 1/11/06: In a year seemingly ruled by Big Events, the biggest event of all has attracted the least attention. Grant Morrison's brilliantly interlinked series of mini-series dazzles with the way what seem at first to be unrelated stories slowly intertwine into a master narrative. And with this first volume of the collections, DC has stunned and gratified me by presenting the material as it was meant to be read, in publication order. Although it's certainly possible to read and enjoy the minis individually, only as a group does the full meaning emerge, and the overall story progresses issue by issue. Forget all your House of Infinite Civil Planet Hulk Wars; this is the big one. |
