1 The Battle of Kar Dathra's Gate (1-4; w Christian Gossett &
Bradley Kayl; a Christian Gossett & A. D. Coulter).
[From Archangel Studio: Over the course of several generations, the
vast empire once known as the United Republics of The Red Star slaughtered
millions of its own people by the order of a single man. The man was their
leader, Imbohl, a mighty sorceror whose insanity turned his people's Utopian
dreams into a nightmarish scheme of his own immortality. Haunted by the
ghosts of their nation's tragic past, the heroes of The Red Star discover
the true nature of their nation's struggle, abandon their duties as soldiers
of the Red Fleet, and embark upon a quest to liberate their people from
Imbohl's dark legacy. This fascinating new world is created by Chris Gossett,
(Tales of the Jedi, Superman Annual #12, 'Apocalypse' with Bruce Willis
for the Sony Playstation) the artist that first designed the Double-Edged
Lightsabre from Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace! With an innovative
new system of color utilizing the same 3D modeling technology as today's
best selling video games and animated features, and a bold new series of
fonts created by Richard Starkings' Comicraft, The Red Star is an epic mythology
that heralds the dawn of a new era in comics.] |
2 Nokgorka (6-9; w Christian Gossett & Bradley Kayl; a Christian
Gossett, Jon Moberly, K.G.B., Paul Schrier). [From Archangel
Studio: This second trade paperback, Nogkgorka, introduces readers to
the war orphan child, Makita. Sorceress Maya Antares searches the war torn
streets of Nokgorka to bury the body of her best friend, Alexandra, and
discovers a secret that will change the course of her life.] |

Prison of Souls (1-5; w Christian Gossett & Bradley Kayl; a Christian
Gossett, Paul Schrier). [From Archangel Studio: This
story chronicles the heroic battle of the skyfurnaces in the
race for Archangel, the soul prison in the Spiritrealm. Maya, Makita, Kyuzo
and Urik test their strength and skill against their former comrades on
the decks of the huge ships, in the depths of the fiery Konstantinov hull
and in the vast skies above.] Book of the Week 1/12/05: [Ive
been waiting for a chance to honor Red Star for a while now, and
this weeks appearance of the hardcover edition of Volume 3: Prison
of Souls gives me an excuse. Red Star is a strange blend of military
science fiction and magic-fantasy, an odd concoction somehow works on both
levels, like a blend of David Weber and Roger Zelazny. The characters are
only mildly interesting, but the situations are fascinating and the beautiful
CGI art looks spectacular in the over-sized format of the trades.] |
| The numbered trade series editions are oversized, about the size of DC's Absolute editions. Volume 1 Issue 5 and the Annual (Run Makita Run) have not been collected in the trade series, although they are both in the regular-sized Collected Edition. Official web site |
