Also collects classic stories from Tales to Astonish 1, Journey into Mystery 62, Strange Tales 89 and Tales to Astonish 10 – and the Marvel Monsters: from the Files of Ulysses Bloodstone.] Book of the Week 2/8/06: Marvel has launched an interesting little experiment lately, having "theme months" for genres that used to be popular, but no longer are. This month, they have four romance one-shots. Down the road, there will be a Western month. And the experiment was launched with a monster month, collected here in a super-size (or should that be monster-size?) hardcover. Me likee. The stories are all fun and well-drawn (Eric Powell, Duncan Fegredo, Mike Allred, among others), and as a bonus we get some Atlas-age reprints of stories that inspired the characters featured here. Fin Fang Four has four classic Marvel monsters teaming up to defeat, well, other monsters. Monsters on the Prowl has some of Marvel's more monstrous heroes (Hulk, Thing, Beast, and...Giant-Man?!?) teaming up to defeat, well, other monsters. Devil Dinosaur has an epic battle between DD and the Hulk, and Where Monsters Dwell is a 3-story mini-anthology. It's all a major hoot, and has me excited to see what they do with the romance and Western months (two genres I've never really gotten into).
