2 A Dame to Kill For (TP, HC, Limited HC; 6-issue mini). [From Dark Horse Comics: It's one of those hot nights, dry and windless. The kind that makes people do sweaty, secret things. Dwight's thinking of all they ways he's screwed up and what he'd give for one clear chance to wipe the slate clean, to dig his way out of the numb grey hell that is his life. And he'd give anything. Just to cut loose. Just to feel the fire. One more time. And then Ava calls.]
3 The Big Fat Kill (TP, HC, Limited HC; 5-issue mini). [From Dark Horse Comics: Criminals have always called the shots in Sin City, whether they were bootleggers, gamblers, or politicians. But since the first dame set up shop in Old Town, those side streets have been run by the women that walk the night. Now the mob's looking to break up the party and reclaim Old Town. They're gonna have to put down a bunch of tough gals and one guy named Dwight to do it. Dwight, he knows something that the mob's gotta learn the hard way: Sometimes standing up for your friends means killing a whole lot of people...] Old Book of the Week 2/22/06: Speaking of things getting blowed up real good, you can't go wrong with any Sin City volume, but this one (featuring the movie's Miko) is my favorite wallow in meaningless violence. And if you have more money than brains, get the Sin City Frank Miller Library Vol. 1, which has four volumes of Absolute-sized, beautifully printed stuff getting blowed up real good. 4 That Yellow Bastard (TP, HC, Limited HC; 6-issue mini). [From Dark Horse Comics: Just one hour to go. Hartigan's polishing his badge and working himself up to kissing it good-bye, it and the thirty-odd years of protecting and serving and tears and blood and triumph that it represents. He's thinking about his wife's slow smile, about the thick, fat steaks she's picked up at the butcher's, about the bottle of champagne she's got packed in ice, about sleeping in till ten in the morning and spending sunny afternoons flat on his back. Just one hour to go and he gets word from a stoolie about that one loose end he hasn't tied up, a young girl who's out there, helpless in the hands of a drooling lunatic. Just one hour to go . . . and he's gonna go out with a bang. Collecting the entire six-issue series, plus an additional 16 pages of story, an eight-page color cover gallery, and an all-new color cover!]

Martha Washington

Dark Horse Comics. All written by Frank Miller and drawn by Dave Gibbons.

Give Me Liberty (4-issue mini). [From Dark Horse Comics: Presenting this softcover 216-page collection of Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons' critically-acclaimed and Eisner Award-winning futuristic tale about a young girl from the ghetto who struggles against impossible odds to save the world from the armies of Fat Boy Burgers, the Aryan Thrust, and the meanest Mr. Clean ever...the Surgeon General!]
Martha Washington Goes to War (5-issue mini). [From Dark Horse Comics: Martha Washington—prisoner, runaway, lunatic, soldier, and now seditionist—has seen the future. It looks great on paper, but it doesn't work. The U.S. government is controlled by power-hungry nutcases. The ecology is a shambles. Everyone talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it...nobody, that is, except PAX and the very expensive weather-control satellite, Harmony. In Martha Washington Goes to War, it's Martha vs. PAX and the United States government, and the odds are more even than you might think!]
Happy Birthday, Martha Washington (1-shot comic, uncollected). [From Dark Horse Comics: On March 11, 1995, something hopeful happened in the slums of Chicago. On that day, Martha Washington was born. Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons began the chronicles of Martha Washington in the 1990 miniseries, Give Me Liberty. The first page of that fateful first issue presents the birth of Martha, dated March 11, 1995. Now, almost five years after the legendary team created that story, Martha's real birthdate is fast approaching, and Frank and Dave invite you to join them for the celebration. Happy Birthday, Martha Washington contains three complete short stories featuring Martha Washington. In "State of the Art," Martha is combat testing a new weapons system when she comes up against an enemy soldier outfitted with the same system; this story originally appeared in the hard-to-find San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2. From the DHP Fifth Anniversary Special comes a story in which Martha learns a lesson about either political agendas or political incompetence; the judges are still out. And in an all-new story, a young Martha goes on assignment to meet America's great war hero, a super soldier who's been fighting the good fight since America's glory days of World War II; and at the rate he's going, the lucky stiff will be around for World War III. The first two stories were originally presented in black and white, but are presented here in full color. All three stories have been colored by Angus McKie, whose work on MWGTW made the art community stand up and take notice. And to top it all off, Dave Gibbons is producing a beautiful new cover. We should all get such favored treatment on our birthdays!]
Martha Washington: Stranded in Space (1-shot comic, uncollected). [From Dark Horse Comics: All her life she has fought for freedom, tried to make her imperfect world into something perfect. Now, on the far edge of space, Martha Washington has found the road to her utopia. There's a perfect world in another galaxy, and all the signposts are pointing her in the right direction. Martha's no stranger to war, but now the battle is being fought in her head—and in her heart. Can she leave behind her cause for the brass ring she's always reached for? In the toughest battles, being a warrior isn't always enough. "Crossover" is an all-new, full-color 18-page story by Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons, featuring a guest appearance by The Big Guy. Martha Washington in Space also features the six-page story "Martha Washington and the Attack of the Flesh-Eating Monsters" (originally printed in black and white in Dark Horse Presents 100 #4), presented here for the first time in color.]
Martha Washington Saves the World (3-issue mini). [From Dark Horse Comics: Venus, a global computer intelligence gone mad, is a heartbeat away from enslaving every mind on Earth. But Venus hasn't counted on her mortal enemy, Martha Washington, who captains a mission to observe the collision with a massive asteroid whose secrets may provide the key to Venus' destruction --- and the very key to Creation itself! Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons, along with Angus McKie, have produced another science-fiction tour-de-force of epic magnitude.]
Martha Washington Dies (1-shot comic, uncollected). [From Dark Horse Comics: On Earth, the battle for freedom rages on. The year is 2095 and the day is the one-hundredth birthday of Martha Washington. She is the leader of a small, resolute band that will not forfeit the pursuit of liberty‹no matter what the cost. Today, the cost will be high. Martha has seen much in her hundred years, from the triumphs and tragedies of the battlefront, to the deepest reaches of space. Today, she will finally see the truth. Includes a special section of never-before-seen production sketches and drawings that predate Martha's first series, Give Me Liberty, along with Frank Miller's original plot notes, all wrapped inside a high-quality card stock cover. This all-new story by two of comics' legendary creators is the unprecedented conclusion to one woman's epic struggle for life's most valuable quality -- freedom.
