Slave Labor collections, B&W trade
These reprints are marred by being printed in B&W from painted color originals, and sometimes printed comics.
1 The Metamorphosis Odyssey (Epic Illustrated 1-9). [From Slave Labor Graphics: Slave Labor reprints for the first time the original classic episodes of Metamorphosis Odyssey from Epic Illustrated. These gorgeous, painted pages introduced audiences to Vanth Dreadstar and his amazing adventures. This collection contains additional sketches, plus a new introduction by Jim Starlin.]
2 The Price (Price OGN, Dreadstar OGN, Epic Illustrated 18). [From Slave Labor Graphics: The second in our series reprinting the classic Dreadstar tales includes the Eclipse Comics' graphic novel The Price, Marvel/Epic's Dreadstar graphic novel, and the solo Dreadstar story that appeared in Epic Illustrated #18. These chapters introduce the new cast of characters who accompany Vanth Dreadstar on his mission to end the devastating war between the Instrumentality and the Monarchy. Once again, Fate beckons Vanth - this time in the form of a wizard named Syzygy Darklock. Both are forced to relinquish what is closest to them in the name of a higher calling - their price for saving humanity. As they do battle with demon mystics, evil priests, bloodthirsty kings, and robot armies, they face their own inner demons and haunted memories, and overcome galactic obstacles to implement the mysterious Plan M. This epic starts as a mystical detective novel and slowly grows into an adventure tale of intergalactic proportions with a tortured hero at its center.]
3 Plan M (1-6). Now collected as Dreadstar Definitive Collection Vol. 1 below.
4 The Secret of Z (7-12). Now collected as Dreadstar Definitive Collection Vol. 2 below.
Dynamic Forces collections, deluxe color HC
These reprints will be in color, with restored artwork, and should be the definitive versions. The numbers are what should be on them; they are, in fact, unnumbered on the jacket, but inside, Volume 2 is labeled Volume 1 and Volume 1 is labeled Volume 2.
1 The Beginning (Epic Illustrated 1-9, The Price OGN, Dreadstar OGN). The Metamorphosis Odyssey was first published in Epic Illustrated #1-9 (initially in black and white, later transitioning into full color) in the late 1970s and told the story of an immortal mystic named Aknaton, whose Osirosian race was the ancestor of all humanoid life in the Milky Way galaxy. The second part of the Metamorphosis Odyssey was originally an Eclipse graphic novel called The Price that told the story of the magician-priest Syzygy Darklock and his rise to power within the Church of the Instrumentality. The third part of the Metamorphosis Odyssey was the Marvel graphic novel Dreadstar originally published in 1982 and featured the return of Vanth Dreadstar! Now, all three parts are combined into one hardcover volume, offered by Dynamite as part of a signed (by Starlin of course!), limited edition!]

1 Dreadstar Definitive Collection Vol. 1 (1-6). [From Dynamic Forces: Jim Starlin's classic Dreadstar is now available in a trade paperback collection featuring the first 6 issues of the series! Over 20 years in the making and close to 200 pages of story art and more! Dreadstar features the adventures of Vanth Dreadstar; Dreadstar the last survivor of the destroyed Milky Way galaxy found himself transported to the Empirical Galaxy where he was recruited by the sorcerer Syzygy Darklock to help bring an end to a two-hundred-year-old war between the corrupt Monarchy and the fanatical Instrumentality. The pages in this new edition have been produced by digitally scanning from the original film and new cover art created by Starlin exclusively for this Edition! Also featuring the original covers and character art and an introduction by Walter Simonson!] Old Book of the Week 4/19/06: Another Epic Comics creator-owned series of the early 80s was Jim Starlin's Dreadstar, continuing his cosmic fetish from Captain Marvel and Warlock, and taking it to a more adult level. Dynamic Forces' reprint strategy is odd; this should be the second volume, but the material making up the first needed extensive restoration. But "Volume 1" contains the beginning of the monthly Epic series, and is a good jumping-on point. Dreadstar (and Warlock before it) is perhaps the peak of Starlin's career, and at least the early volumes should not be missed by cosmic afficionados.
2 Dreadstar Definitive Collection Vol. 2 (7-12).
