Visions (12-issue mini; w Jamie Delano; a Frank Quitely, Warren Pleece,
James Romberger, Steve Pugh). [From Cyberosia: Delano's
tour de force follows the lives of a disjointed family, struggling to survive
in the morally and socially decadent United States of 2020. From psychotic
venereal diseases to exclusive human breeding facilities, the future never
looked so bleak, or so hopeful. Includes an afterword by the author and
an introduction by Richard Kadrey.] Old Book of the Week 1/18/06: Another experimental one-author anthology, this time from the under-appreciated and under-used Jamie Delano, 2020 Visions was a 12-issue mini from Vertigo which had four 3-issue stories that were loosely and subtly connected. It requires more careful attention than most comics in order to catch the connections, but one's attention is rewarded by a deep, complex sci-fi dystopian cautionary tale spanning generations. The art is also excellent and varied (by Frank Quitely, Warren Pleece, James Romberger, and Steve Pugh), although I question the decision to reprint the color series in black and white. Its available in a trade from Speakeasy and a hardcover from Cyberosia. |
